Quick Q&A with Singer Marre

By: Jessica Michault

Singer Maria Gomez, who her fans know as Marre, is a rising star in her native country of Colombia and has already made inroads in the United States thanks to the heartfelt, relationship focused songs she writes.  Gomez has also found an online outlet for her other creative interest on her Spanish language blog Marrefashion,  where she talks about her love of music, fashion and beauty products. With an Instagram following of more than 350 thousand devotees, a YouTube channel generating triple digit views, and a brand new video launched last month called Tú y Yo, Marre might just be the Taylor Swift of Colombia.

Here she talks about her big break, balancing making music and blogging and how she struggles with wanting to remain in Colombia even with opportunities from The Big Apple knocking at her door.

How did you first get interested in fashion?
I started my career in music. I am a professional pop singer in Colombia and I love it, but I have always loved fashion. So I study Marketing and Communication of Fashion and I started to write in my blog. I love it so much and I am so happy mixing my music and my blogging career.

What made you finally decide to launch out on your own?
I have always loved writing and giving my opinion about different stuff. I love working in the music business and I have my Instagram and I love it, but I felt the need to tell my opinion and my stories to people through my blog.

What was your big break?
I had a lot but being invited to New York Fashion Week was absolutely a dream come true.
