Pratt Institute’s 118th Annual Fashion Show-The Work
Every year, Pratt Institute selects several of their graduates to present their fashion collections on the runway. This year, the show was held at the Spring Studios venue. Pratt chose fourteen extremely talented fashion designer graduates and the results were amazing! The show featured both womenswear and menswear. With so many unique and distinct designers, the runway was toned by a wide array of flashy colors. The outfits were just as structured as they stood comfortably outside of the norm. The diversity in style and design was matched by the diversity of the materials. All the graduated did a wonderful job of blending materials such as denims, silk, plastic, nylon together. This 2017 Pratt fashion show is for those who dress to express not to impress.
I was taken by their sheer desire to explore and the ability to go beyond the norm. The event was electrifying and amazing and I was honored to be there. At the end of the show, an award ceremony took place and the honorees of the Pratt Fashion Visionary Award went to Laura Kim (B.F.A. 04) and Fernando Garcia, co-creative directors of Monse and Oscar de la Renta. It was so great to see designers being honored for their talent and hard work. Clearly Pratt is an established force among the elite design schools.
