Katusha Vtkbm | Inspired to collaborate
By: Michael Suber | Founder & CEO
-Do you agree that you are challenged everyday to create something that has never been created before?
Yes, and that's really difficult, but I like tryin out new things and challenge myself
-Can you describe your creative process? What do you look for when creating a shoot and do your shoot line up to be what you expected?
Well, for me the light is everything. When the sun shines, I know that my shoot will be like I want it to be. So I try to catch a perfect light (for me), but sometimes I can't do anything (when the sun goes down or it starts to rain) in these cases I use studio lighting, which I don't like :(
-You have to have a favorite artist in mind that drives your creativity or inspires you, who is it?
I don't have any favorite artists actually, and that makes me sad because everyone has one! But I do like Terry Richardson.
-How would you describe yourself as a person & artist?
For me, it is always hard to describe myself or my works, but I think that I'm a really responsible person, and I have a lot of ambition (is it good?:) and speaking about me as an artist... Well, I think that it's too early to call me an artist
-How did you know you wanted to be a photographer?
Well, to be honest, it all started many years ago, I was about 10 or 11 yo. Photography always used to be my hobby. And after a few years of taking pictures of my friends, I realized that I wanted more and from that moment I started following the world of fashion, hoping to become a part of it one day.
-Do you have favorite photographers who inspire you? Why is that?
As I have mentioned above, Terry Richardson. I love his fashion photos of celebs, his background and how he started. I think he is a really cool person
-Can you describe one of your favorite projects that you have worked on and why was it your favorite?
I can't choose only one favorite, each project that we do with a big team automatically becomes a favorite one. I'm so happy to have the experience of working with so many talented people!
-We have taken a look at your website/portfolio Online, how do you want the viewer to feel when looking at your work?
Well, the most important thing for me is to show the beauty of each girl. Every girl is amazing and my goal is to make people see it.
-Do you ever collaborate with designer brands?
Yes, and with handmade designers too. I can't even draw a pretty flower, so for me to imagine how they do their work is... I don't know... Impossible. They are super talented!
-In the artistic world of photographers, do you see yourself not only trying to achieve your perfect shoot but also being known for your work?
I'm not going to lie, sure, I want to be well-known, but I need time and a lot of practice for that. Right now I'm based in Moscow, and here every other person is a photographer, so it's really hard to become famous and popular
-If you could shoot an editorial anywhere in the world, where would you go? Why is that?
There are so many beautiful places all over the world. But I really want to shoot in NYC. I love the skyscrapers, rushing people. I think that NY has special atmosphere.
-What was the main reason that you decided to become a photographer?
When I understood that I can show the beauty without using a lot of makeup or photoshop and make a person happy. Just to see my clients' reaction when they look at their photos and smile – it’s priceless!
-Tell me about your latest shoot. What was your vision when you created it?
My latest work was for a well-known Russian model agency. The model was lovely and she just inspired me, she was really open and friendly, the sun was shining, we were laughing and taking pictures :)
-To be a photographer, you had to undergo a lot of struggles. What was the most difficult obstacle for you when putting together a shoot?
Well, I've had a lot of episodes when the makeup artist or the stylist was late and i had only 10 minutes for 3+ looks. I also remember a really bad experience when during the shooting my camera fell and broke...
-Does your personal life ever effect how you compose your shoots or do you have a set schedule/formula that you follow? What is it exactly?
I'm an emotional person, so I think that, yes, my mood can effect the results. But I'm really trying to be professional and do my work well even if there are apocalypses in my personal life
-Who excites you the most (Celebrity) & why?
My dream is to work with Megan Fox, I think she is more than all those sexy things. And I think that I can show it!
-If you had to pass on a suggestion for someone starting out in photography, what would you tell them?
Well, when I started, there was so much criticism about my works «you have a bad vision», «your colors are ugly», «please stop taking pictures» and etc.
That' why I'd say: please, don't stop! Practice, try new things and never, NEVER give up! Promise me <3
-How is your style of photography different from others different from any other photographers?
I think that my advantage is using the natural light. I can't say for sure whether I have a style and it can be recognized, but I hope so!
-What are your world-dominating goal.
I want to meet people all around the world, visit places, work and do what I'm doing right now!
